Can you see it?

This is a picture of a mouse.  Can you see it?! I didn't know it was possible to be so proud and feel so much joy over a simple child's drawing. You see, our daughter Kylee lives with spastic cerebral palsy.  She is nonmobile and nonverbal and while all movement is extremely difficult, her fine motor skills are exceptionally so, even for her less affected arm/hand.

A few years ago Kylee began to develop a love of coloring and drawing. I have watched her spend hours striving in deep concentration as she scribbled page or Doodle Pad, one after another. At nearly nine years old, after years of scribbles and unidentifiable markings -Kylee has learned to draw smiley faces and as of this week, the most precious depiction of a mouse this Mama's eyes have ever seen!

She never gave up.  She pressed on and reached her goal. She pressed on - - this reminds me of Paul's words from Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Some days I'm tempted to just give up, but the Lord is always good to remind me to keep going, to press on. Life is oftentimes messy and difficult for anyone perhaps even more so for those of us who are raising children that come from hard places or are dealing with challenges much different than those of their peers. Some days this can make our job of living out Christ’s love, goodness, forgiveness, and healing even more of a challenge.

I don't know about you, but often times when I look back I see lots of scribbles. Where I had strived for beautiful strokes I only see unidentifiable markings. Can you relate? Yet, I wonder what does God see in all of our efforts? If I see the beauty in Kylee’s work, how much more must He?!

Keep pressing on, we will reach our goal, I truly believe that glorious day when we see our Lord and savior face to face He will show us how He used all of our scribbles to work out His perfect picture in our lives.
